Dethatch your lawn with this mixture:

From Jerry Baker's Garden Magic booklet in the
Garden Line Series

After your first and last dry fertilizer feedings, apply
this mixture in your 20 gallon hose end sprayer, filling
the balance of the sprayer jar with ammonia. That should 
do it.
