RECIPE #57 SEAWEED SPRAY Categories: Garden, Sprays, How to make Seaweed Spray for those who live along the beach and can collect it. Its viewed as a supplemental source of nutrients and can protect against disease problems in the garden. WARNING: Never mix seaweed and fish emulsion.. Fish emulsion is a good medium for fungal growth and Rodales states they would not mix the two for this purpose. It can help plants that are mildly diseased by generally promoting better growth and development. They do not have bacterial or fungicidal activity. Rodales also recommends using it as an overall disease management program. Dr. Rateaver says it should be used on a regular basis as a fertilizer, to protect plants from cold and heat, as well as to keep plants growing at a remarkable and healthy rate. Maybe she will add more before we add this to the recipe section. (I hope so). You must first dilute liquid seaweed. On plants that are sick, dilute to half recommendation on label and spray once a week. On fairly vigorous plants, follow directions on container and spray every 2-4 wks. For the seaweed, I find collecting it and just letting it soak in a 5 gallon bucket in the sunshine will make it just like sun tea:>, except you don't drink it. Works great but I dilute it down a little more, not sure. I bet Dr. Rateaver would know, but then again with all our polluted waters maybe buying it is still the best choice:> BARGYLA RATEAVER It is true, the Nowegian stuff is purposely collected out where there is little pollution and only 1/3 as much sodium chloride as in pacific water.
