RECIPE #38 BUGS OUTSIDE Categories: Garden, Bugs OUTDOOR PEST CONTROLS: Aphids mix 1 teaspoon of liquid soap in a gallon of water. Spray directly onto bugs. Introduce ladybugs or lace wings into the infested area to eat aphids Caterpillars apply products that contain BACILLUS THURINGIENSIS Snails and slugs Plant onions and marigolds liberally throughout your garden. Place overturned clay pots near shady side of plants. Make sure there is enough room under the edge for snails and slugs to enter. Check under pots during warm part of day and remove. The following to work well for me: 1. Bone meal dusted in the general area, or encircling the plants. 2. A ring-ridge of diatomaceous earth and sand around plants 3. Garlic/pepper tea sprayed on area to be treated. Recipe for tea follows: >>>> Liquefy 2 bulbs of garlic and 2 tsp cayenne pepper in 8 oz water. Strain out solids 24 hours later. Add enough water to liquid to make 1 gallon concentrate. Shake well before using. Add 1/4 cup of concentrate to each gallon of water in a pump pressure sprayer. 2 Tbls vegetable oil per gallon of concentrate will make the tea stronger, but I doubt that it is needed for slugs and snails. -----
