"Organic Solutions"

I wanted to add a few tips to Tina's "slug" solutions:
* Diatomaceous earth (ocean diatoms made of silica - very spikey!):
sprinkle it around the plants. Repeat after heavy rains.
* Chopsticks: Picking slugs can be icky business, whether you're
tossing them over the fence or in a bucket of salted water. Either way,
using chopsticks means you don't have to handle the squishy things, plus
you increase your manual dexterity!
* Wooden boards: this is one of the most effective ays to "collect"
slugs en masse. Simply place boards or planks between plants or rows.
Slugs will seek refuge by flocking (sliming) to the cool shade reated by
the boards. Check them periodically, and just scrape off the slugs. (An
over-sized rubber spatula works great).
