The Bloomin' Idiot's
2001 Gardening Journal
There hasn't been much to report gardening-wise until now ... just been trying to hang in there until I can get some of this JUNGLE out of the house! I've got aloe blooming in a bathtub, and some sedum "Autumn Joy" cuttings I took last fall about to bloom, too! I took some pics of the jungle in here and will post them as soon as I get them developed.
March 4 - FINALLY!!! Signs of spring are popping up everywhere ... some of my bulbs are up and BLOOMING in the cactus bed!
Put the roses outside (been hardening them off the past few weeks on nice days) ... two are regular roses and two are climbers. I put the two I THINK are the climbers down near the road on the fenceline ... should be gorgeous this summer!
Put the agave and kinnikinnik from the mountains and a native prickly pear in the ground in the "native plants" bed.
Put the chile peppers out with the winter veggie garden, a shrub I'm not sure of the name of near where the pond will be and my lone azaela out, too.
I've mulched them all with straw and will cover them at night.
Planted poppy seeds (double-bloom and "Hens & Chicks") just outside the gate by the road, and some purple and white columbines on the other side of the gate.
Planted some Ranuculus in one of the beds ... not sure how they're going to do ... bought them ages ago!
Hubby dug up two of the Russian olive trees behind the garage where we're going to extend the driveway. He dug up a cassia (var u/k) that was going to be in the way of the driveway, too ... boy, does his back hurt!
I have some hosta and Stargazer lilies to plant ... I know where to put the hosta, but the lilies are stumping me. It says to put them where they'd get some shade in the heat of the day to preserve the colors of the flowers (makes sense, especially up here). However, we don't have much shade, so I've gotta ponder this one!
